In the past week I’ve had the opportunity to help two friends get lobang for prospective jobs. And last month I helped Joel’s (see second-to last entry) mum, who asked my dad, who then asked me to get in touch with Mel. All this feels really really good! Now I really understand the value of networking and just plain having connections. I’m glad I made the effort to keep in touch with friends from NUS and AC. A lot of my conversations with uni friends always revolves around our careers and further studies, cos there’s really no one else who understands our experience in the industry better. I used to think it’s so boring when adults talk shop, but now really enjoy it. It’s just so important to keep up to date with each other, cos it opens your eyes to the opportunities out there and is a great motivation to keep you moving in your career. I think I’m slowly becoming quite like my dad in this respect (but don’t tell him I said that
)
Recently another issue that kept popping up is health. First were events involving family of some close friends, and at work, a big talking point has been the results of our institute-wide health screening. Apparently I have the best profile among my colleagues. This in spite of having a diet that would make a nutritionist go into spams. But hey, genes and youth will only get you that far, so I gotta be proactive about making sure my profile stays this way.
Speaking of which, I’ve discovered a fantastic new jogging route near work. There’s a newly opened road that joins up with Portsdown, so now it’s a lovely peaceful, scenic and green run from work all the way to Normanton Park and Kent Ridge Park. I can even just run straight home if I want to. Sometimes I take for granted how blessed I am to work where I do. It’s near my place, central and quite conveneniently located, near an area that still holds endless surprises and also lots of nostalgia for me. One day I’ll take photos along my run route to show you. The only downside is that it sometimes gets a bit too lonely after dark and is also home to some funky wildlife. Like spitting cobras.
